As the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA), we believe that all of us have shared stakes with the people of Guatemala in the eradication of U.S. militarism in Central America. We know the same systems that work against human rights and social justice abroad also limit the possibilities for self-determination, justice, and accountability at home. Notably absent from U.S. discourse on im/migration, especially during an election year, is the U.S. government’s role in creating the conditions of inter/national displacement through capitalist and imperialist domestic and foreign policy.
