  1. Protection of all existing water in Guatemala / Protección de toda el agua existente en Guatemala
  2. Recognize the right to a minimal amount of potable water and water for domestic use to cover basic needs / Reconocer el derecho a una cantidad mínima de agua potable y domiciliar para cubrir las necesidades básicas.
  3. Recognize the right to store rainwater, but only to the extent that it does not damage others’ access to water / Reconocer el derecho a almacenar agua de lluvia, pero sin que esta acción perjudique a otros.
  4. Facilitate access to justice, in one’s own language, to demand one’s right to potable water / Facilitar el acceso a justicia, en el propio idioma, para demandar el derecho al agua potable.
  5. Recognize the rights of Indigenous people to the use and not-for-profit management of their natural resources, without having to register them, according to their own norms and traditional ways / Reconocer el derecho de los Pueblos indígenas sobre el uso y gestión no lucrativa de sus bienes naturales, sin tener que registrarlos, desde su normativa interna y sus formas tradicionales.
  6. Recognition that all water is of the public domain and it is prohibited to privatize it / Reconocimiento de que toda el agua es de dominio público y queda prohibida toda forma de privatización.
  7. Create a national authority of water resources with representation of the people, respecting the municipal and communal authority, to make good use of the water / Crear autoridad nacional del recurso hídrico con representación de los Pueblos, respetando la autoridad Municipal y Comunal que haga buen uso del agua.
  8. In the case of any attempt to take advantage of water for profit, the communities affected should be consulted and their decision respected / Ante cualquier aprovechamiento lucrativo del agua se debe consultar a las comunidades y respetar su decisión.
  9. Whoever causes contamination, unfit use, or any kind of harm to water should stop the harmful activity and repair all of the negative consequences / Quien provoque contaminación, apropiación indebida o cualquier daño al agua, debe cesar la actividad y reparar todo el mal generado.
  10. Eliminate any agreement or law that acts against the human right to water or against the water itself / Eliminar cualquier acuerdo o ley que atente con el derecho humano al agua o al agua misma.
  11. Facilitate access to water based on the different needs of children, women, men, and people with different abilities / Gestionar el acceso al agua en base a necesidades diferenciadas, de la infancia, mujeres, hombres y personas con capacidades diferentes.
  12. Declare water as a living and sacred being that is capable of having rights / Declarar el agua como ser vivo y sagrado, capaz de ser sujeto de derechos.
