From Resistance to Victory: Lessons from Guatemalan Movements

One of the powerful moments featured in NISGUA's report 'From Resistance to Victory: Lessons from Guatemalan Movements' is the Parliament of the Xinka People's historic presentation of their community consultation results, reaffirming their collective decision to reject the mining project—proof of grassroots organizing in action. Across Guatemala, grassroots movements are confronting injustice with courage, creativity, and deep-rooted collective power. From defending ancestral lands against extractive industries to reviving cultural identity and demanding justice for historic crimes, communities are showing that resistance is both a memory and a living force. In this report, we highlight the work of AJR, the Xinka Parliament, and CODIDENA—partners whose organizing offers powerful lessons in dignity, solidarity, and perseverance. Their stories remind us: when we organize together, another future becomes possible.
