For 45 years, NISGUA has walked alongside communities in Guatemala in their defense of land, life, and dignity. Rooted in grassroots organizing and cross-border solidarity, this work has been shaped by the leadership, vision, and resistance of Indigenous Peoples, survivors, and social movements who continue to transform grief into collective power.
Together, we have witnessed historic struggles for justice, accompanied communities defending their territories, and helped build bridges of solidarity that reach far beyond borders. These years hold countless stories of courage — of communities organizing, remembering, and demanding a future grounded in dignity.
As we honor this shared history, we also look forward. The challenges remain urgent, but so does the strength of the movements we walk with. From Guatemala to the United States, we remain committed to organizing at the grassroots and sustaining the collective work still ahead.
This year, we will celebrate NISGUA’s 45th anniversary in the way we know best: in community — gathering across borders, sharing stories, honoring memory, and dreaming together about the future we are building. With gratitude for all that has brought us here, we celebrate 45 years of solidarity in motion.
Throughout this anniversary year, we’ll be sharing stories and memories that honor this journey. We invite you to begin by exploring our interactive timeline, browse the sections below, and stay connected through social media as we continue sharing reflections along the way.
