The page turns on the Gregorian calendar, but time — like memory and resistance — moves to its own rhythm. Still, the opening of 2026 invites us to pause, take a breath, and thank you for continuing to walk alongside NISGUA, for your trust, and for the commitment that gives solidarity its meaning.
This new cycle finds us moving forward together, step by step, aware that communities and territories measure time in different ways. In the months ahead, we’ll share struggles, learnings, encounters, and a few surprises already taking shape. Stay close — 2026 is unfolding as a path we will continue to build collectively.
⚖️ On December 10, International Human Rights Day, the opening hearing in the genocide trial against former General Luis Enrique Mendoza García was suspended for the second time. In response, survivors and human rights organizations gathered outside the courthouse, where the Association for Justice and Reconciliation (AJR) read a powerful statement condemning the renewed suspension and demanding justice for the Ixil people.
🔥 As we step into 2026, we reflect on a powerful moment that closed the year: our End of Year Gathering, where Xinka leaders Sheny Lemus and Patricia Gregorio shared their people’s long struggle against the El Escobal mine. As this message reaches you in the new year, we open 2026 grounded in the struggle for life, the teachings of the people of Guatemala, and the hope that continues to sustain our shared commitment to solidarity.
🗓️ A new year invites new intentions — and right now, a special opportunity. The NISGUA 2026 Calendar is 50% off, making this the perfect moment to get one if you haven’t yet, or to share it as a meaningful gift while supporting movements for justice in Guatemala. Get yours here!
