TAKE ACTION: Challenge Goldcorp to Respect Community Rights
NISGUA
5/27/2009

Solidarity activists are joining with Guatemalan communities in demanding that Canadian mining company Goldcorp Inc. respect their decision to reject mining activity on their territories. This May 22, Goldcorp Inc. held its Annual General Meeting inVancouver, Canada

NISGUA sponsored two Guatemalan representatives-Aniseto Lopez from the communities in San Miguel Ixtahuacan directly affected by the Marlin Mine and Arturo Mendez representing the Peoples' Council of the West-to attend the meeting and communicate with shareholders and beneficiaries of Goldcorp Inc.

A series of actions around the meeting chastised Goldcorp for imposing its projects in areas where people have not given their free, prior, and informed consent. Goldcorp Inc. holds exploration licenses in some 14 municipalities in Western Guatemala, 13 of which have expressly rejected mining activity through community referendums.

Please join us by participating in this postcard campaign.  Click here to access the postcard, print it on decent-quality paper, cut it into four for the four different recipients, sign them, and send them off!

Help us tell Goldcorp that its activities  in Guatemala are illegitimate and that they must listen to the voice of the people!
